FIXED BRACES

PRECISE TEETH STRAIGHTENING IN LEAMINGTON SPA

No longer is teeth straightening or orthodontics just the remit of the teenager. With modern improvements in straightening technology we have been able to consider straightening adult teeth as part of cosmetic changes rather than crown or veneer them. Straightening your teeth preserves more tooth tissue and hence increases the life span of your teeth.

To achieve precise tooth positioning, both conventional metal braces and clear aligners can deliver predictable results. For more complex tooth movements, improving bites, or for patients who prefer not to wear removable aligners, fixed braces are often the better option. This is a highly accurate and predictable method for straightening teeth and improving overall dental function. However, conventional metal braces do not necessarily mean they have to be unsightly.

Fixed braces can:
  • Align teeth precisely with predictable, controlled movements

  • Correct complex issues including rotations and bite problems

  • Provide 24/7 treatment without removable appliance responsibilities

  • Offer aesthetic options with tooth-coloured ceramic brackets

What our Warwickshire patients say

Fantastic orthodontic and other dental treatment over the last 2 years. Upen takes great care and attention to detail, so you can be sure you’ll be delighted with the outcome - and your new smile!

Paul Jordan

I had a great experience! Harmeet was lovely and explained everything so clearly. Harmeet talked through some teeth straightening and whitening options which was really helpful and at no point did I feel pressured to commit to anything on the spot. I’m so glad I moved to The Grove and wish I’d moved sooner!

Understanding teeth grinding and clenching

Bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching) is often an unconscious behaviour that can occur during sleep or even while awake during periods of concentration or stress. This condition affects people of all ages and can have various causes, including:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Sleep disorders

  • Abnormal bite or misaligned teeth

  • Certain medications

  • Lifestyle factors like alcohol, caffeine, or tobacco use

Left untreated, chronic grinding can lead to:

  • Worn, flattened, fractured, or chipped teeth

  • Loosened teeth

  • Damaged dental restorations

  • Increased tooth sensitivity

  • Jaw pain and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders

  • Headaches, particularly upon waking

  • Facial pain and ear discomfort

Modern

fixed brace options

Dr Upen Vithlani has studied orthodontics extensively and is able to guide you as to the type of tooth straightening treatment that is most suited to your lifestyle and situation. At The Grove Practice in Warwickshire, we offer several types of fixed braces:

Ceramic braces

Our most popular option for adults, these use high-quality tooth-coloured ceramic brackets which are almost invisible yet still strong enough to withstand the force of your bite. When combined with tooth-coloured wires, these provide a highly aesthetic orthodontic option that's barely noticeable in everyday interactions.

Metal braces

The traditional option, metal braces offer maximum durability and efficiency for complex tooth movements. Modern metal brackets are smaller and more comfortable than those of previous generations. For patients seeking a bit of personalisation, coloured elastics can be added for a unique touch.

ICONIX rose gold braces

For those who want their braces to make a style statement, our rose gold ICONIX braces combine functionality with fashion. These distinctive braces can transform orthodontic treatment into a unique accessory.

The fixed braces process

Step 1

Initial consultation

We begin with a thorough assessment of your teeth, jaws, and bite, using digital imaging and advanced diagnostic tools to understand your orthodontic needs. We'll discuss your goals, explain treatment options, and help you decide if fixed braces are right for you.

Step 2

Treatment planning

Using digital planning tools, we create a customised treatment plan that maps out the movement of your teeth from their current position to their ideal alignment. This precise planning ensures efficient, predictable results.

Step 3

Brace fitting

The actual fitting of your braces takes about 1-2 hours. After thoroughly cleaning your teeth, we bond the brackets to each tooth and thread the archwire through them. We'll provide detailed instructions on caring for your braces and what to expect in the coming days.

Step 4

Regular adjustments

You'll visit us approximately every 6-8 weeks for adjustments, where we'll change the archwire or elastics to continue guiding your teeth into their proper positions. These appointments are usually brief, lasting about 20-30 minutes.

Step 5

Debonding and retention

Once your teeth have reached their planned positions, we'll remove your braces and take impressions for retainers. Wearing retainers as directed is crucial for maintaining your new smile long-term.

Braces as

part of cosmetic treatment

Teeth straightening treatments are often used as part of a smile makeover transformation together with cosmetic bonding and tooth whitening. This comprehensive approach allows us to achieve dramatic improvements while preserving your natural tooth structure.

This obviously has a cost associated with the treatments and we therefore offer finance packages to help make it more affordable for you.

FAQs about

Fixed braces

How do I clean my teeth with fixed braces?

We'll provide detailed instructions and special tools for cleaning around your braces, including interdental brushes and orthodontic flossers. While it requires extra effort, maintaining excellent oral hygiene during treatment is essential for preventing decay and gum problems.

How long will I need to wear fixed braces?

Treatment duration varies depending on the complexity of your case, typically ranging from 12-24 months. During your consultation, we'll provide a personalised estimate based on your specific needs.

How much do fixed braces cost?

The cost depends on the complexity of your case and the type of braces selected. We offer various payment plans, including 0% finance options, to make treatment more accessible. During your consultation, we'll provide a detailed breakdown of costs and payment options.

Will I need to wear a retainer after my braces are removed?

Yes, wearing retainers is crucial for maintaining your new smile. Without retention, teeth have a natural tendency to shift back toward their original positions. We typically recommend wearing removable retainers full-time initially, then at night indefinitely.

Do fixed braces hurt?

You may experience some discomfort for a few days after initial placement and following adjustment appointments. This is typically mild and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. The discomfort indicates your teeth are moving as planned.

Can adults get fixed braces?

Absolutely! A significant portion of our orthodontic patients are adults. There's no age limit for orthodontic treatment, and many adults choose to straighten their teeth for both aesthetic and functional benefits.

Can I still play sports with fixed braces?

Yes, but we strongly recommend wearing a specially designed orthodontic mouthguard to protect both your braces and your teeth during sports. These can be custom-made to fit comfortably over your braces.
